Event: UNECE Beijing+30 Regional Review Meeting

The Beijing+30 Regional Review Meeting, held on October 21-22, 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, commemorated three decades since the historic Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), established in 1995 to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment globally. This meeting, organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in collaboration with UN Women, gathered representatives from 56 countries across Europe, North America, and Central Asia including Turkey, and Russia. It aimed to review regional achievements, challenges, and gaps in implementing the BPfA’s 12 Critical Areas of Concern, which include economic empowerment, leadership, and combating violence against women.
The objectives of the conference are to:
- Assess progress in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the ECE region over the past five years.
- Review current and emerging challenges, good practices, lessons learned, and priority actions required to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women, contributing towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including SDG 5 on gender equality and all other SDGs.
- Provide a platform for Member States and stakeholders to explore policy options and strategies, including innovative approaches and good practices, toward realizing gender equality and the empowerment of women.
- Build regional consensus on priority actions to accelerate the implementation of commitments made in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action
United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) participated in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Beijing +30 Regional Review meeting representing civil society.
