Event: International Day of the African Child (IDOAC)
Date: 15 August, 2025
Location: St. Lawrence Ground, T/A Chikowi- Malawi
The International Day of the African Child (IDOAC) is commemorated annually across the African continent. The day serves as a platform to reflect on the progress made, address persisting challenges that African children continue to face, and to call for collective action to advance children’s rights, protection, and development.
In Zomba District, the Council and its partners organize the annual commemoration of IDOAC to reflect on children’s welfare and advocate for the full realization of their rights. This year’s commemoration was held on 15th August at St. Lawrence Ground, T/A Chikowi, under the theme: “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights: Progress since 2010.”
The event brought together stakeholders, community leaders, parents, and children in a vibrant celebration that featured speeches, performances, and activities centered on raising awareness of children’s rights. Speakers emphasized the urgent need for inclusive planning, adequate budgeting, and joint responsibility to ensure that children are not only protected but also given the opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow in safe and supportive environments.
As part of our ongoing commitment to empowering children and supporting community-driven initiatives, United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) proudly participated in and supported this important event. Our contribution, in collaboration with the organizers, reflected UVGI’s mission to promote children’s well-being, advocate for equity in access to education, and ensure that the voices of children are heard and respected. By standing alongside the Zomba District Council and other partners, UVGI reaffirmed its dedication to advancing the rights of children and working toward a brighter future where every child is given the chance to flourish.
