EVENT: Commemoration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) joined the global and national movement to observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against Women and Girls. The event, marking the culmination of this important campaign, took place at Village Headwoman Mtima’s grounds in Traditional Authority Nkagula, Zomba District.

Organized by UVGI Ambassadors in Malawi with support from UVGI, the activity aimed to amplify the voices of women survivors of gender-based violence, advocating for the end of all forms of GBV in Malawi, particularly in the Sakata community. The event was held under the theme: “Towards Beijing +30: Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls.”

Objective:
To amplify the voices of women survivors of gender-based violence and unite the Sakata community in the fight to end all forms of GBV in Malawi.

Participants and Stakeholders
The commemoration was a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders. Women survivors of GBV from Mtima village played a central role, sharing their experiences and triumphs

Activities and Messages
The program included a variety of activities such as speeches, poetry recitals, drama performances, and traditional dances. Each activity conveyed a strong message about preventing and ending GBV, fostering awareness, and encouraging community-wide commitment to protecting women and girls.

Women survivors from Mtima village shared their personal stories of overcoming GBV, highlighting the crucial support they received from family members, traditional leaders, community police, and victim support groups. Their narratives emphasized the importance of collective action and community support in combating violence against women and girls.

Impact and Commitment
The event served as a platform for stakeholders to reinforce their commitment to ending GBV. It also empowered women survivors to advocate for change and inspire others in their community to reject violence in all its forms. The commemoration underscored the message:
“There is no excuse and no room for violence against women and girls.”

United Voices for Global Impact remains steadfast in its mission of education and raising awareness to critical issues and to create safer, more inclusive communities where women and girls can live with dignity, free from violence and discrimination.
