EVENT: Facilitating dialogue for gender-related policies

On April 23, 2025, UVGI-Malawi team participated for the first time in the Technical Working Group (TWG) on Gender meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Zomba District Water Development Office. This forum, which includes the Race Gender Class (RGC), development partners, and civil society, facilitates dialogue for harmonizing gender-related policies, laws, and strategies for greater aid effectiveness.
During the meeting, UVGI team presented the organization’s gender-focused interventions in Zomba, particularly highlighting the feeding program and health initiatives in GVH Liti. These interventions were well received by the TWG members, who acknowledged their positive impact and encouraged UVGI to continue its efforts.
To strengthen networking and collaboration with gender technical experts at the district level, enabling greater impact and alignment of UVGI’s gender-based programs with district policies and strategies.
Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) remains a critical issue in Zomba District, with alarming statistics reflecting high rates of violence against women and youth. The TWG emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration, networking, and increased community-based interventions to address SGBV, while also promoting women’s and youth’s participation in leadership and decision-making. UVGI’s involvement in the TWG serves as a strategic step towards amplifying its impact in combating gender-based violence and promoting gender equity in Zomba.
