Expanding Nourish to Flourish: Our Reach to Nkalapa Village

Nourish to Flourish Feeding Program Launch at Mwayiwathu CBCC
Date of Implementation: May 01, 2025
Location: Mwayiwathu CBCC, Nkalapa Village
Total Beneficiaries: 60 children

We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Nourish to Flourish Program to a new center—Mwayiwathu Community-Based Childcare Centre (CBCC) in Nkalapa Village. As of May 2025, all 60 enrolled children at Mwayiwathu CBCC have been integrated into the program, receiving nutritious, fortified porridge daily.

The launch of the program at Mwayiwathu has been met with overwhelming support from the local community. Village Headman Nkalapa, along with parents, guardians, and other community members, have taken full ownership—mobilizing resources and participating actively in meal preparation. This level of community engagement and commitment reflects the shared understanding of the vital role nutrition plays in early childhood development.

How the Program is Progressing

The program is off to a strong and encouraging start:

  • Zero absenteeism has been recorded among the children since the program began.
  • Voluntary community involvement in cooking and supporting the feeding sessions has fostered unity and ownership.
  • The CBCC is working cohesively with community members to ensure meals are nutritious, safe, and well-prepared.

Impact

The expansion of Nourish to Flourish is already making a tangible difference, with both short- and long-term benefits anticipated of

  • Improved physical growth, reducing the risk of stunting and wasting.
  • Enhanced cognitive development, supporting memory, learning, and attention.
  • Improved educational outcomes due to better health and brain development.
  • Stronger mental well-being, helping prevent behavioral and psychological issues.

Why Early Childhood Nutrition Matters

Early childhood is a critical period for physical and mental development. Good nutrition during this time sets the foundation for lifelong health, academic success, and economic stability. That’s why Nourish to Flourish goes hand-in-hand with growth monitoring—a practice we’ve implemented at both Tiyamike and Mwayiwathu CBCCs. Through regular growth monitoring exercises, tracking of children’s height and weight, we’re able to identify and address nutritional issues early.

This expansion marks another milestone in our mission to empower children with the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and thrive. We are deeply grateful to the Mwayiwathu CBCC leadership, the Nkalapa community, and all those who continue to support our efforts in building healthier futures—one meal, one child, one center at a time.
