Emergency Flood Relief Response in Zomba District, Malawi
Date: April 2, 2026
Location: Ntima Village, Zomba District- Malawi
In response to the devastating heavy rains and flooding that affected Zomba District and other regions of Malawi in March 2026, United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) mobilized a community-based disaster relief response to support affected households in Traditional Authority Nkagula, Zomba District. The flooding displaced thousands of families, damaged homes, disrupted schools, destroyed crops, and intensified food insecurity, leaving many communities in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
As part of its emergency response, UVGI provided relief assistance to vulnerable flood-affected households in Ntima Village, delivering essential household and food support items to help address immediate needs. The intervention focused on supporting families whose homes had collapsed or sustained significant damage, many of whom were displaced and facing severe hardship.
Impact Highlights
UVGI’s response contributed to broader local relief efforts aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs, including access to basic supplies and support for affected families. In a community where assistance had been limited, this intervention helped provide timely support and solidarity to flood survivors while highlighting ongoing unmet needs for food, shelter, household essentials, and longer-term recovery assistance.
This disaster relief effort reflects UVGI’s commitment to community resilience, humanitarian action, and standing with underserved populations during times of crisis. While immediate relief was provided, significant needs remain for recovery, including housing rehabilitation, livelihood restoration, and strengthened preparedness for climate-related disasters.
