Theme:
“Let’s Unite in the Fight Against Drug and Substance Abuse!”

  • Over 25 women from the local community

Objectives:

  • To enhance knowledge and awareness of mental health and drug/substance abuse.
  • To empower participants as social behavior change champions at family and community levels.

  • 10 Practical Prevention Strategies:
    • Education, healthy coping, resisting peer pressure, professional help, strong family ties, and setting boundaries

Project Goals & Vision

  • Goal (by 2028): Reduce youth involvement in drug abuse through education, prevention, and community engagement.
  • Mission: Create responsible, empowered youth actively participating in community development and decision-making.

Impact and Outcomes

  • Participants gained a strong understanding of the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
  • Youth and women voluntarily committed to act as role models and advocates for behavior change.
  • Village Headwoman Mtima praised the meeting’s positive influence and potential ripple effects on family and community well-being.

In addition to addressing substance abuse prevention, the event also incorporated mental health awareness as a key component. Participants were introduced to early warning signs of mental health challenges, available support services in Malawi, and practical strategies to maintain emotional well-being. Emphasis was placed on reducing stigma and encouraging open dialogue, empowering individuals to seek help and support one another in their communities.
