Impact Story: Fatima’s Journey of Hope and Opportunity
12 August, 2025
In the heart of Zomba District, Malawi, lives Fatima Chidothi, a determined 19-year-old girl with dreams of becoming a nurse. Fatima is the only daughter in a family of four children, and her life changed drastically when she lost her father in March 2025. His passing left her mother a struggling widow, burdened with the responsibility of providing for the entire family through small-scale farming.
Despite her determination to continue her education, Fatima’s challenges were overwhelming. She walked more than 10 kilometers every day to attend Katamba Community Day Secondary School, often on an empty stomach. Her mother struggled to provide even the most basic necessities. Climate change further deepened her family’s hardships, leaving them without enough food and no resources to support her education. Without school fees, uniforms, books, her dream of education seemed to be slipping away and was on the verge of dropping out of school due to financial hardship. Without support, Fatima faced a future of vulnerability and limited opportunity.
Through United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) and the generosity of its donors, Fatima’s life has taken a new direction. UVGI covered her tuition fees for the year, provided her with essential school supplies, and repaired her bicycle—ensuring she could now travel to school safely and on time, instead of walking miles each day. When Fatima and her mother received this support, they were overcome with tears of joy and gratitude, offering heartfelt blessings to UVGI and all those who stood by them in their time of need.
