Date: 28 January, 2026
Location: Tiyamike CBCC, Ntima Village- Zomba District
With support from United Voices for Global Impact (UVGI) USA, UVGI Malawi Ambassadors conducted a child growth monitoring exercise on January 28, 2026, at Tiyamike Community-based Child Care in Ntima Village, Traditional Authority Nkagula, Zomba District.
The exercise included MUAC screening, height measurement, and weight assessment to monitor children’s nutritional status and growth. More than 45 children from the center and surrounding community participated.
Results showed that all children were in normal health, with no cases of moderate or severe malnutrition. The findings indicate that UVGI’s Nourish-to-Flourish Feeding Program is positively supporting children’s health, nutrition, and development.
Program Impact
The growth monitoring exercise and feeding program have contributed to:
- Early detection and prevention of malnutrition
- Improved child health and growth outcomes
- Nutrition education for mothers and caregivers
- Strengthened connection between families and primary health services
- Increased resilience for children during Malawi’s lean hunger season
Continued Support for Vulnerable Children
Despite Malawi’s lean hunger season (December–February), children at Tiyamike and Mwayiwathu CBCCs continue to receive nutritious meals through the program. This support helps prevent malnutrition, promotes healthy growth, and strengthens the well-being of vulnerable children in the community.
As a result, the centers are not only places of early childhood care but also safe spaces supporting children’s nutrition, health, and development.
UVGI remains committed to regular growth monitoring and sustained feeding support to ensure children in these communities grow, learn, and thrive.
